Melmac is a selective isolation within the Penis Envy (PE) lineage of Psilocybe cubensis. It was popularized by a grower known as "Homestead" and named after the fictional planet from the 1980s sitcom ALF ("Melmac, that was the name of my planet. It's also what it was made out of.").
The strain is prized for its highly distinctive morphology: thick, often twisted or gnarled stems and wavy, irregular caps that frequently remain partially closed. This "alien" appearance sets it apart even among other PE variants.
Like other PE-family strains, Melmac tends toward higher potency than average cubensis. Community reports and facilitator feedback consistently highlight strong visual geometry, reliable introspective depth, and a front-loaded or intense early phase for many users. Duration is often reported in the 6–8+ hour range.
What the Profile Suggests
The dense, meaty fruit bodies and PE-derived genetics support the reputation for potency and distinctive character. The wavy-cap morphology and contorted stems are not just visual — they often correlate with the robust growth and alkaloid expression that experienced users notice.
While specific batch HPLC data for Sont-grown Melmac is still being compiled, the broader PE family frequently shows elevated total tryptamine content.
